Junior Research Fellow (JRF), Physics at HRI Prayagraj

About the position

Harish-Chandra Research Institute (HRI), Prayagraj invites applications for one Junior Research Fellow (JRF) / Project Associate-I position. The work is in quantum networks and quantum technology under Prof. Ujjwal Sen. It is supported by the ANRF Advanced Research Grant project "Engineering Quantum Network for Scalable Quantum Technology". The project is shared with BIT Mesra, Ranchi and IIT (ISM) Dhanbad.

The initial tenure is one year. It can be extended up to the project end (3 Jun 2029) or a maximum of 36 months, whichever is earlier. The position ends with the project.

Eligibility

• Master's degree in Physics / Mathematics with interest in Quantum Information Science and Quantum Networks.
• NET / GATE: candidates selected through CSIR-UGC NET (including Lectureship) or GATE, or a national-level examination conducted by Central Government departments, agencies or institutions (such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER) will be engaged as JRF.
• Candidates without NET / GATE are also eligible and will be engaged as Project Associate-I at lower emoluments.
• Desirable: familiarity with quantum information / quantum optics (not mandatory). Programming and numerical skills (C++, Python, Mathematica, MATLAB) are preferred.

Fellowship / pay

• With CSIR-UGC NET (including Lectureship) / GATE or equivalent: JRF Rs. 37,000/- per month. SRF Rs. 42,000/- per month, on successful external assessment.
• Without NET / GATE: Project Associate-I Rs. 30,000/- + HRA per month. Project Associate-II Rs. 33,000/- + HRA per month.
• Upgrade from JRF to SRF needs a successful external assessment by BIT Mesra after two years.
• DA is not admissible. HRA is admissible as per Central Government norms for JRF / SRF where hostel accommodation is not provided.
• The project does not cover any medical benefit.
• PhD registration will be at BIT Mesra. Dr. Anindita Bera (BIT Mesra) will be Guide and Prof. Ujjwal Sen (HRI) will be Co-Guide.
