Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF), Physics and Mathematics at ICTS Bengaluru

About the position

The International Centre for Theoretical Sciences, TIFR (ICTS-TIFR), Bengaluru invites applications for its Postdoctoral Program 2027 (Fall Cycle). Research areas include complex systems, space-time physics and mathematics, with interfaces to theoretical biology, computer science and computational sciences. The initial appointment is for two years, renewable for a third year in exceptional cases after academic review. Two named positions are also advertised under this cycle: a Simons Collaboration on Cosmic Magnetism position and the CALIBRE (AI in Biology) Postdoctoral Fellowship.

Eligibility

• The candidate must have a PhD degree at the time of joining, as per the Institute's rule.
• At least two recommendation letters must be arranged by the applicant.
• Simons Collaboration on Cosmic Magnetism position (1 remaining, Astrophysics and Relativity): up to three years, renewable annually based on academic review.
• CALIBRE (AI in Biology): two years, extendable to a third year based on academic review.
• ANRF N-PDF: selected candidates may be considered for institutional endorsement, subject to availability of a faculty mentor. The N-PDF applicant must be an Indian citizen.
• Selection is subject to the availability of funding.

Fellowship / pay

• Fellowship and benefits are as per the norms stipulated by the grant/funding agency.
• CALIBRE fellows: monthly fellowship of up to Rs. 1,25,000 and research/travel support of up to Rs. 3,00,000 per year.
• Outstanding applicants may be considered for the Ashok & Gita Vaish Postdoctoral Fellowship, which gives a fellowship enhancement and additional travel and research support.
• ICTS accommodation or Housing Rent Allowance as per current norms.
• Medical benefits as per current norms.

2. Submit your CV, list of publications, a research proposal (not more than two pages) and a covering letter.
3. Arrange at least two recommendation letters before the referee deadline of 15 Dec 2026.
