PhD Admission (PhD), Biotechnology at RGCB Thiruvananthapuram

About the position

BRIC-Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Thiruvananthapuram, invites applications for PhD admission in various fields of Biotechnology. This is the January 2027 session. Selected candidates register for the PhD with the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB). The number of seats is not stated.

Eligibility

• Post-graduate degree with minimum 60% marks, or 4-year Bachelor's degree with minimum 75% marks, in Life, Agricultural, Environmental, Veterinary, Pharmaceutical or Medical Sciences or allied subjects (Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Biophysics, Chemistry, Microbiology), or equivalent grade or equivalent foreign degree.
• 5% relaxation of marks for SC, ST and differently abled candidates.
• A valid JRF (UGC, CSIR, ICMR, DBT or any other nationally competitive fellowship) for 5 years offered by the Government.
• Below 28 years of age on the last date of application. Relaxation up to 5 years for SC, ST, PwD and female applicants, and 3 years for OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) applicants.
• Candidates awaiting final results of their degree who hold a valid JRF can apply. They must produce certificates at admission or when issued.
• If the original fellowship certificate is unavailable, submit a photocopy of the admit card and result page showing the roll number.

Fellowship / pay

Fellowship and other emoluments are as per the guidelines of the respective funding agencies (DBT/CSIR/UGC/ICMR or any other nationally competitive fellowship), revised from time to time. Admitted students pay an administrative fee of ₹5,000 per semester to BRIC-RGCB and ₹5,000 per semester to RCB until thesis submission and defence respectively. Application fee is ₹500 (non-refundable). SC, ST, EWS and differently abled candidates are exempt with a valid certificate.

3. Pay the ₹500 fee online through SBI Collect, unless exempt.
4. Submit the completed application by 5:00 PM on 8 Nov 2026.
