PhD Admission (PhD), Multiple Schools at IACS Kolkata

About the position

IACS Kolkata, a deemed to be university, invites applications for regular full-time PhD admission for the Spring Semester 2027. The session starts in January 2027. Positions are offered under six Schools and the Director's Research Unit, based on openings in individual research groups. The number of vacancies is given School-wise and research area-wise in the notice.

Eligibility

• 55% or equivalent in Master's for general candidates. 50% for SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled and other categories.
• Minimum eligibility as per UGC rules. Qualification requirements for each School are given in the notice.
• Selection is based on academic record, performance in the appropriate national level examination, and the written test and/or interview held by the School.
• Age: below 30 years on the closing date. Relaxation as per Government of India rules.
• Nationality: Indian citizen.
• Examples of School-wise requirements: M.Sc. in Chemistry with CSIR NET (JRF), INSPIRE or other fellowship; M.Sc. in Physics with CSIR/UGC NET JRF, GATE, JEST or INSPIRE; Master's in Mathematics for SMCS areas; M.Tech/MS in Computer Science for SMCS 03.
• Meeting the criteria does not guarantee shortlisting for interview.

Fellowship / pay

Fellowship as per IACS/CSIR/UGC/INSPIRE rules. All regular PhD students who join are eligible for a scholarship from IACS/CSIR/UGC/INSPIRE as per rules.
