Assistant Professor, Management at IIM Calcutta

About the position

IIM Calcutta invites applications for faculty positions at the Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor (Grade I and Grade II) levels. The openings span the areas of Business Ethics & Communications, Economics, Finance & Control, Human Resource Management, Strategic Management, Marketing, Management Information Systems, Operations Management, Public Policy and Management, and Organizational Behaviour. This is a standing faculty recruitment call rather than a single advertised post, so the number of vacancies is not fixed. Regular appointees at Professor, Associate Professor and Assistant Professor Grade I levels undergo a minimum probation period of two years.

Eligibility

Professor: PhD with first class at the preceding degree or equivalent in the appropriate area, a very good academic record, and a minimum of ten years of Teaching/Industry/Research experience, of which at least four years should be at the level of Associate Professor at IIMs or other peer institutes in India or abroad, with demonstrated leadership in research.

Associate Professor: PhD with first class at the preceding degree or equivalent, a very good academic record throughout, and a minimum of six years of Teaching/Industry/Research experience, of which at least three years should be at the level of Assistant Professor at IIMs or other peer institutes in India or abroad, with demonstrated independent research experience.

Assistant Professor Grade I: PhD with first class at the preceding degree or equivalent, a very good academic record throughout, and at least three years of industrial/research/teaching experience as on the date of application, excluding experience gained while pursuing the PhD, with demonstrated research capability.

Assistant Professor Grade II: eligible candidates with less than the requisite experience may be considered for contractual Assistant Professor Grade II positions with appropriate pay as per Government of India rules, with a pathway to Assistant Professor Grade I on fulfilling the required experience.

Group-wise research priorities: Business Ethics & Communications seeks a PhD in Philosophy (moral philosophy, western and Indian) for the Ethics role, and a PhD in Communication (Corporate/Social Media/Digital/Computational/Rhetoric/Applied/Linguistics/Analytics/Ethnography) for the Communication role. Economics seeks candidates with research interests in Macroeconomics. Finance & Control seeks candidates in Financial Reporting and Disclosures, Asset Pricing, FinTech, Alternative Investment Management, and BFSI. Human Resource Management seeks candidates in Strategic and Operational HRM and Employee/Labor Relations. Management Information Systems seeks candidates in Cloud Computing, AR/VR, Metaverse, Social Media/People/Marketing Analytics, Digital Marketing, Technology Entrepreneurship and related digital/IT areas. Marketing seeks candidates in Sales, Distribution, Retailing, Product and Brand Management, Consumer Culture Theory, IMC and Digital Marketing, and Marketing Analytics. Operations Management seeks candidates in Operations Research and Quantitative Techniques for Decision Making. Public Policy and Management seeks candidates in healthcare policy, healthcare management or public health (Doctors/Surgeons/Health Scientists with a PhD may also apply). Strategic Management seeks candidates in Strategy, Entrepreneurship and International Business.

Fellowship / pay

Base salary is as per the guidelines of the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. Salary and allowances for all regular levels are as per Government of India norms. The Institute offers housing for faculty, funding for national and international conferences, a research grant program, a faculty development allowance, access to domestic and international databases, and additional rewards for publications in top-tier journals.
